Cold Feet
If you suffer from cold feet, it is a very good idea to consult a foot specialist in regards to having your circulation checked out.
The hands and feet are furthest from the heart, so they are generally the first areas on the body to get cold. They get cold more quickly because they are the outer extremities.
There is a disease that is known as "Raynaud's disease.î Raynaud's disease is more common in women, where they actually have very poor circulation in their fingers and toes.
Although there are certain things that you can do to help the circulation in the feet and help try to maintain warmth in the feet, in some situations this needs to be treated medically with proper procedures and medications.
It is a good idea to have this properly diagnosed so that it can be treated, then followed up with the proper sock, the proper boot and the proper footbed.
Smoking and drinking coffee can have an effect on whether the feet are cold due to the fact that smoking is a vassal constrictor, as well as coffee. It will actually close the blood vessels down just slightly, slowing some of the circulation down to the hands and feet.
Socks play a very important role in keeping the feet warm. It's not only the material that the sock is made from whether it is silk, wool or a blend of the following: silk and wool or wool and nylon. What is important is the thickness of the sock, which would be referred to as the bulk of the sock, and the shape of the sock and how tight the sock is.
If the sock does not have a good pattern to it, you may have some circulation problems around the foot. If the sock isn't fitting the foot properly, it can put pressure points on some of the veins in the feet.
If the sock is too thick and you wear it in a tight shoe or tight boot, it is going to put compression against the skin of the foot, slowing the circulation down and your feet may become cold.
This is very common in a hockey skate, ski boot or a snowboard boot where the individual tries to wear a thicker sock to take up some extra room. They are actually making their feet colder because they are creating pressure points against the feet.
Oftentimes when you wear a ski boot, or a boot that is going to be in a very cold environment, it is actually better to go to a thinner sock so more blood can get to the foot.
