Ankle Pain

A sprained ankle refers to the tearing, stretching and rupture of the tendons and ligaments around the ankle area.

Superfeet footbeds effectively offer support and stability to the foot to help prevent ankle sprains and other injuries. The footbed can also help to give the foot better balance and an over-all feel of the shoe and the ground that the foot is functioning on.

Over the years, Superfeet has received numerous comments from customers about enduring ankle sprains quite frequently while participating in activities such as hiking, running, basketball and so on. These customers reported that when footbeds were introduced into the shoe, the occurrence of sprained ankles decreased dramatically.

However, you cannot focus the emphasis on the footbed alone. A shoe that is too large will allow the foot to slide around and take away its ability to function and support the body properly. A shoe that is broken down (such as the heel counter and the back of the shoe) and not helping to support the foot in a good structural manner can predispose the foot to certain types of injuries.

Sole wear and the type of tread that is used on the bottom of the shoe can also play a part in foot and ankle sprains. There may be a situation where the shoe has a very rough or rugged outsole tread and if that were to catch on the edge of the step or a curb it could cause a foot and ankle sprain.

On the opposite side of that situation is a shoe with a sole that is very smooth and does not have any gripping capabilities. This can cause someone to slip and again reintroduce the possibility of a sprained ankle.

Therefore, it is important to have the foot stable inside the shoe and to make sure the shoe is not broken down or worn out.
