Q + A with Superfeet Ambassador Justine Van Drunen
Meet Superfeet Ambassador Justine Van Drunen, also known as @lean.justine. Over the last year and a half Justine has lost 141lbs. Justine chronicles her journey on her Instagram and YouTube channels, sharing workout videos, nutrition tips and fitness inspiration.
We asked Justine to share some of her best tips for leading a healthy lifestyle. Here's what she had to say:
What is your personal fitness routine in an average week?
I work out six times a week for around 1.5 hours per day. This includes: a warmup, weight training (focusing on a specific muscle group), a HIIT workout and my cool down or stretch. I plan my workouts the night before so when I get to the gym, it's go time.
What advice do you do you give people just starting out, or who haven't exercised in a long time?
I always recommend focusing on your nutrition. What you fuel your body with will be the determining factor if you see results. I absolutely love tracking my meals so I know exactly where I stand with my daily food intake. Along with nutrition, try adding in some fun low impact beginners HIIT workouts.
What are some healthy food and snacks you recommend?
Some of my favorite healthy snacks include:
1. Protein coffee (perfect for when the 2 pm sweet tooth comes around)
2. Protein muffins
3. Hard boiled eggs (fast, easy, nutrituous and can be added to salads)
4. Parmesan crisps or pork rinds
If someone has 20 minutes a day to exercise, what should they focus on?
Depending on what your goals are (to build muscle, lose weight, tone), this may vary, but a healthy heart is important for everyone. Making the most of the 20 minutes by increasing heart rate through cardio or weight training would be beneficial.
What motivates you everyday?
During my weight loss, my motivation was seeing physical changes in my body. Now that I have moved to maintaining mode, I love setting small goals and working towards them! I also have my IG page, where I love to post my workouts for my followers, and get inspiration to start their own journeys.
What other fitness advice would you like to share?
Weight loss is never linear. Be ready to roll with the punches and be open to change when things aren't working out. Just don't give up! The sacrifices you put into your journey will always outweigh the life you will gain.
