Skateboarding is having a moment. Soon to hit the global stage in a big way, it’s hard to think of a sport more punishing on your feet than skateboarding.
We caught up with Superfeet Ambassador, Pro Skateboarder and Team USA athlete Tristan Rennie to chat all things skateboarding, what it’s like to see his sport debut at the Tokyo Olympic Games and how Superfeet keeps him riding. Find Tristan on Instagram: @tristanrennie.
Superfeet: When did you first start skateboarding?
I’ve had a skateboard since before I could walk but I really started getting into it around 5 years old.
Superfeet: How does it feel to see skateboarding in the Olympics for the first time?
I feel like it was only a matter of time before skateboarding was included in the Olympics. There's been a push to include it since the late 70s so it's taken some time to make it happen. It’s such an honor to be a part of the US national team next to all the amazing athletes.
Superfeet: How did you prepare to compete to be on the inaugural Olympic team?
In preparation, I focused big on the final qualifying event before Tokyo. I have been putting a lot of thought into my diet and training outside of skating, as well as pushing myself to learn more difficult tricks.
Superfeet: Where are your most favorite places to skate?
I’ve been very fortunate to be able to travel the world and visit some amazing places. Brazil is one of my favorite places because the people are always super friendly and there are so many amazing skate spots.
Superfeet: How do Superfeet insoles support you?
Superfeet insoles have helped my feet recover quicker and help me skate longer. I had a couple years where I could only skate for only about an hour at a time. When I was 14 years old I had an MRI on my feet that revealed a spider web of stress fractures all through both my feet. The doctor recommended I try Superfeet to help my feet recover. Since then I’ve had Superfeet COPPER insoles in every pair of shoes that I skate in and my feet have never felt better. I used Superfeet insoles for about six years before I had the opportunity to become an ambassador. I am extremely grateful that I have the opportunity to work with a company that I truly believe in. I can't wait to see what is to come in the future!
