What inspires you?

Giving a voice for those who do not feel that they have a voice. Helping others put their best foot forward in life both physically and mentally.

What's your favorite book?

What's your favorite activity?

Currently, interior design.

What is your proudest accomplishment?

The birth of my daughter.

Do you have a Spotify playlist or favorite song you'd like to share?

I absolutely love Nigerian music! You really can't be in a bad mood listening to upbeat Nigerian music.

What is your favorite Superfeet?

My favorites are the Black DMP Insoles.

Have you ever felt like you have had to check your authentic self at the door?

Absolutely. As an African American woman implicit bias and gender bias, especially as a young physician happen to me all of the time. I'm always very careful with my responses to ignorance which require me to "check my authenticity at the door."  All jokes aside, my ultimate goal is to respond to educate and inform. People react to you based on your response. The only way to have a positive impact is to make sure your response is something that one can learn from.

Has someone assumed you could or could not do something because of your gender?

Yes. Women are constantly fighting gender bias and equality especially in the medical field, even further as a female surgeon. It is important that we continue to work hard to end this bias. Studies show that women perform better, are better leaders , educators, and physicians, yet we are paid less, less likely to be placed in a leadership position, and are consistently underestimated simply because of our gender. This needs to end.

Have you ever felt shame or inadequacy because you didn’t live up to expectations placed on you because of your gender?

No. Thankfully I was raised by a strong woman. My mother showed us (my siblings and I) at an early age that we can do it all as females. Meaning, we can be a wife, a mother, and have a career.  We can shatter and break glass ceilings.
