Superfeet Ambassador Amy Margolis had planned to run the Boston Marathon this year but due to the coronavirus pandemic the race was cancelled. That didn’t stop her from participating virtually with many others around the world.
Congratulations on finishing the first-ever virtual Boston Marathon. What an accomplishment! Can you tell us more about what kept you motivated when you found out that the in-person race was cancelled?
Staying motivated was easy for me. I had plenty to look forward to all summer with other objectives. I am a self-motivator and training and racing isn't just a hobby, it’s my lifestyle. I also have David to help keep me motivated as he is my best supporter.
Can you tell us more about your experience on race day? How did you choose your course?
Race day was so much fun. Originally, I was planning to do my race on my birthday, September 11. But then I decided that I should include everything I was doing all summer long, epic views, lots of vert and alpine lakes. So, we found a route that we could both be a part of. Unfortunately, no alpine lake, but we covered the other two things — Handies Peak, 14,048 feet, was at mile 4.5!
Do you have any advice for our readers about how to adapt when things don’t go as expected?
Always have a backup plan and be flexible. In the words of Ken Chlouber: You are stronger than you think you are, you can do more than you think you can.
What’s next for you?
I will continue to just live my life as I always do — getting outside, running, hiking and I have the urge (after 3 years) to get back on my bike. As far as races: 6-hour race (virtual, of course) and I am signed up to be a guide for a friend for CIM in December.
